MATERNAL NUTRITION
DURING PREGNANCY
AND LACTATION

The joy of every married woman is to become pregnant and ultimately give birth to a baby.  However, the stages from pregnancy to lactation require a special care, hence the desired consideration.
The three basic things of life, food, clothing and shelter are important to every individual. To a pregnant     or  lactating mother ,  the most important thing is taking care of the baby . A very important aspect of these is nutrition  because not only  does it affect the mother ,it equally affects the child.  Maternal nutritional status during pregnancy and lactation affects the  weight of the baby , the growth as well as  mortality later in the infant's first year of life. Recent studies have it that  nutrition plays  a major role in what  a child   becomes.
One of her basic needs is blood  which she can obtain by taking vegetables, liver, e.t.c. it is also necessary to increase protein intake, and to take a lot of fruits and water. These  foods  provide the body with minerals and vitamins which help enhance appetite there-by generating  energy ,raising  immunity against infection   among other things. It  also helps  to prepare  for a good breast feeding  start, as it affects the quantity of breast milk produced during lactation.

HARMATTAN SEASON

The harmattan season is a period of the year when we make the greatest effort to look good with the dry harmattan weather and the blazing sun playing havoc with our skin and hair. Experts on beauty give tips on how to avoid this.
HAIR: use weave-on or braid the hair, this stops the hair from breaking, as harmattan makes the hair brittle, if you choose not to braid, wash regularly and cream the hair.
SKIN: Use a mild soap.     Do not take long hot bath as the heat zaps your skin. Use a good moisturizer, apply lotion when your body is dry.
LIPS: Try a lip balm, this prevents the lips from cracking. Cream the nails to prevent breakage.
